Overview:
iMed operates at the intersection of digital health infrastructure and patient services. While their backend systems were already capable of handling large volumes of health data, the missing piece was a mobile experience designed for everyday users.
Patients needed one place to store prescriptions, lab reports, imaging files, discharge summaries, and personal health readings. More importantly, they needed to control independence in hospitals, clinics, or providers.
Our role was to translate this vision into a mobile app that felt approachable, trustworthy, and dependable from day one.
Understanding Users and Use Cases
We begin by mapping real patient journeys such as onboarding, uploading records, tracking vitals, and handling emergencies. This helped us identify where users might hesitate or drop off.
Planning a Scalable Cross-Platform Architecture
Using a shared codebase allows us to keep features aligned across iOS devices such as iPhone and iPad. We designed the architecture to support offline access, secure uploads, and future integrations from the start.
Building Core Health Features
The app was developed with unified UI components and clear flows for managing health records, medications, allergies, vaccines, and manual vital tracking. Emergency and safety features were built to be instantly accessible when needed.
Testing and Production Rollout
We tested across devices, OS versions, and real-world usage scenarios. Data-heavy screens were optimized, and security flows were validated before rolling out the app in stages.
The Problem
Healthcare data lives in too many places. Most users juggle physical reports, hospital portals, and diagnostic apps that don’t talk to each other. iMed wanted to solve this fragmentation, but doing so came with clear challenges.
Building and maintaining separate native apps would slow releases and increase cost. At the same time, healthcare data demanded strict security, encrypted storage, and privacy-first access without overwhelming users with friction or technical steps.
Our Role
- Cross-platform application design and development
- Patient-focused UI/UX planning
- Secure personal health record (PHR) workflows
- Scalable architecture for future healthcare integrations
Project Challenges
Making Complex Health Data Feel Simple
Prescriptions, lab values, imaging reports, and medical history all carry context and risk. Presenting this information clearly without oversimplifying or confusing users requires careful structuring and multiple design iterations.
Strong Security and Low Distruptions
Security couldn’t be optional, but neither could be usable. We had to ensure authentication, encryption, and access controls worked quietly in the background, without disrupting everyday use.
Supporting Real-World Usage Patterns
Patients doesn’t use health apps in a linear way. Some upload years of records at once, others log vitals daily, and many open the app only in emergencies. Designing flows that worked reliably across these very different usage patterns required careful prioritization and testing.
Performance with Heavy Medical Files
Medical reports and imaging files can be large and inconsistent in format. Ensuring smooth uploads, fast access, and stable performance on mid-range devices was a constant technical challenge.
Results
In a healthcare context, results matter only if they hold up under daily use. The following outcomes show how the application performed when handling real patient data, frequent access, and ongoing updates across platforms.
35% Faster Release Cycles
Using a single cross-platform codebase shortened development timelines and allowed iOS updates to ship together without rework.
99%+ Crash-Free Sessions
Even with large medical files and frequent data access, the app maintains high stability, ensuring reliable access to sensitive health information.
60%+ Reduction in Ongoing Maintenance Effort
Unified architecture and shared components reduced long-term maintenance, making updates easier to plan and execute.
How The App Helps Today
This engagement went beyond building a mobile application. It was about reshaping how individuals interact with their health information. By combining Flutter-based cross-platform development with healthcare-aware design and architecture, we helped iMed deliver a solution that patients can trust and grow with.
The result is a stable, secure, and scalable personal health platform built for today’s users and tomorrow’s healthcare ecosystem.
